We have extraordinary news for all enthusiasts of Ukrainian history and cinema! On November 26, a unique event will take place—the presentation of the restored 1917 film "Ukrainian Movement". This rare film gives us a glimpse into Ukraine's past through the lens of a camera from almost a century ago.

The film "Ukrainian Movement" is a true historical treasure, revealing the significant events and mood of an era that shaped the future of the Ukrainian nation. Thanks to modern technology, years of work, and artificial intelligence, the team at kilok.art has restored the film, eliminating many of the defects accumulated over time. This project became possible through collaboration with the Central State Audiovisual and Electronic Archive and the VіATEL studio.

The 1917 film "Ukrainian Movement" is the only surviving footage capturing the leadership of the Central Rada before the Russian invasion. This film features Mykhailo Hrushevsky, Volodymyr Vynnychenko, Military Secretary Mykola Porsh, head of Kyiv's Free Cossacks Mykhailo Kovenko, and other figures who enabled the creation and defense of Ukrainian statehood during the revolutionary years.

The film reel, preserved in the Central State Audiovisual and Electronic Archive, was copied for the Ukrainian archive more than half a century ago. Before that, the material underwent numerous duplications, some of which were filmed directly off the screen, which is the most damaging process for image quality.

For restoration, the film was scanned in 4K format in Ukraine for the first time.

Director Ivan Kanivets, who led the restoration of this cinematic chronicle, will share the story behind the project and discuss the challenges faced during the restoration process. At the presentation, you will learn how technology helps preserve important historical materials and witness the role of artificial intelligence in conserving cultural heritage.
