Documentary project “History Online” – “Ukrainian Episodes”

Історія Онлайн

“Ukrainian Episodes” (2008) is a documentary film that combines material from three short documentary films about the history of Ukraine, originally titled “History Online” (2005).

“History Online”

Twenty years ago, inspired by the events of the Orange Revolution, Ivan Kanivets and Volodymyr Kashtanov set out to create a project that would remind our citizens of various interesting facts from our history—things we should have learned in school but either didn’t or have since forgotten.

In a short entertainment format, we saw an opportunity to simultaneously arouse interest in the past and encourage viewers to visit museums.

Later, in a somewhat revised form, the History Online series became part of our project Ukrainian Episodes.

Episode 1 “Mammoth Hunters”

Episode 2 “Pectoral and gold of the Scythians”

Scythian (or hired Greek) craftsmen created jewelry masterpieces using sophisticated techniques of engraving, filigree, and grain. Their jewelry depicted scenes from life, mythological creatures, and religious symbols, which gives us a better understanding of their worldview.

In this documentary, we take a journey through time to discover the secrets of these unique treasures. Why is Scythian gold considered one of the most valuable archaeological treasures? What stories are hidden behind the elegant ornaments and images?

Episode 3 “The Hryvnia and Its History”

The hryvnia is not just a currency that we use every day. It is a symbol of independence, economic stability, and intergenerational ties. Its history goes back centuries, as back in the days of Kievan Rus the hryvnia was the main currency and weight unit.
