Wo Men Bu Shi Mo Sheng Ren

We’re excited to share a short blog post about the premiere of Wo Men Bu Shi Mo Sheng Ren at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival — a historic moment not just for the film, but for Singapore cinema as a whole.

Directed, written and produced by Anthony Chen, Wo Men Bu Shi Mo Sheng Ren (We Are All Strangers) debuted in the festival’s prestigious main competition on 16 February 2026, marking the first time a Singaporean film has ever been selected to compete for the Golden Bear — one of the world’s top film awards.

Set in contemporary Singapore, the story follows 21-year-old Junyang as he confronts adulthood when his relationship takes an unexpected turn, and his father’s life is upended by a new love, forcing both generations to redefine what family means and how it shapes who we are.

Starring Yeo Yann Yann, Koh Jia Ler, Andi Lim and Regene Lim, the film completes Chen’s celebrated “Growing Up” trilogy, following his earlier acclaimed works Ilo Ilo (2013) and Wet Season (2019).

The world premiere in Berlin was a vibrant celebration — full of anticipation, applause, and proud moments as audiences witnessed a distinctly Singaporean narrative take its place on the global stage. It was a night that highlighted both the emotional depth of the film and the growing reach of Singapore storytelling in international cinema.

🎥 Stay tuned for more coverage and impressions from this unforgettable Berlinale premiere!
