On November 26, the Blue Hall of the Cinema House hosted a presentation of the restored film The Ukrainian Movement from 1917, which became a significant event for the Ukrainian cultural community. The film, which preserved unique footage of the Central Rada, was restored using modern technology: 4K scanning, digital restoration, and the use of artificial intelligence algorithms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event brought together representatives of various fields involved in the preservation of historical visual materials. The event was attended by Halyna Kryvorchuk, producer of the VIATEL film company, who helped digitize the film and organize this presentation; Tetiana Emelianova, director of the Central State Audiovisual and Electronic Archive (in her speech she emphasized the importance of archives in preserving national memory); Vasyl Viter, film director and head of the Department of Television Directing at the I. V. Ignatenko Kyiv National University of Theater, Film and Television. K. Karpenko-Kary and a long-time guru of the kilok.art project, film critic Serhiy Trymbach, deputy head of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine (who spoke about the cultural and historical significance of such projects), film director Iryna Pravilo, who has repeatedly provided invaluable support to kilok.art initiatives, Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Timur Barotov, a participant in many kilok.art projects, including Generation of freedom<\/a>Augusta Samoilichenko, creative manager of the Dovzhenko Center, and Inga Chkhatarashvili-Petrash, director of the Institute of Screen Arts. Valeriia Ivanchenko, a producer who initiated the creation of the first film about Ukrainian cosmonaut Kadeniuk, also spoke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The author of the restoration, director Ivan Kanivets, shared the history of the work, including the challenges associated with significant damage to the original materials. He noted that many copies of the film were created by reshooting from the screen, which significantly reduced the image quality. The restoration of the details was made possible through hard work and the use of innovative technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The screening aroused deep interest and an emotional response from the audience. The screening was followed by a lively hour and a half discussion. Participants discussed the role of cinema as a tool for preserving national memory, the uniqueness of the footage depicting Central Rada figures, including Mykhailo Hrushevsky and Volodymyr Vynnychenko, and the importance of such materials in the context of current events. Particular attention was paid to the technical aspects of film restoration, including the use of artificial intelligence algorithms to improve image quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event ended with words of gratitude to the organizers and a discussion of the prospects for further work on the restoration of other historical films. The guests expressed hope that such projects will receive proper support and popularization, as they are an important contribution to the preservation of national heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
