In 1912, Sweden hosted the Olympic Games, which became one of the most remarkable sporting events of the early 20th century. Athletes from the territory of modern Ukraine also participated in these competitions, with two of them earning bronze medals. I was intrigued by a two-hour film about those Olympics, hoping to catch a glimpse of the first Ukrainian Olympians. Unfortunately, the events they competed in were not included in the footage. Additionally, these athletes were not shown in close-up during the opening ceremony. Although my assumption turned out to be incorrect, I remain hopeful of finding their photographs in newspapers and magazines of that era.

Just a few years later, true cinematic chronicles began to emerge worldwide, becoming invaluable records of historical events. Ukraine also joined this tradition, capturing events during the Ukrainian Revolution. If you wish to see these unique frames on the big screen, we invite you to the presentation of the 1917 film The Ukrainian Movement. This footage showcases prominent figures such as Mykhailo Hrushevskyi and Volodymyr Vynnychenko and is one of the few cinematic documents of that time. Our team has managed to restore this film using modern 4K technology and artificial intelligence, returning it to its original quality.

You can see the restored film and learn about the restoration process today, November 26, at 6:00 PM in the Blue Hall of the Cinema House in Kyiv.
