We have prepared a new video — a cinematic visual timeline of Ukrainian military uniforms from the era of the First Liberation Struggles.
The video shows how the appearance of the Ukrainian soldier changed between 1914 and 1920: from the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen in the Austro-Hungarian Army and Ukrainianized units of the former Russian army to the formations of the Ukrainian People’s Army.
The video features, among others, the Ukrainian Sich Rifleman, a sailor of the battleship "Volya", the Bohdan Khmelnytsky Regiment, the Kost Hordienko Regiment, the Bluecoats, the Galician Army, the Black Zaporozhians, the Hutsul Marine Infantry Regiment, and others.
The video was created by kilok.art, based on the poster series"Military units of the Ukrainian War for Independence"presented on December 24, 2014, at the Ye bookstore on Lysenko Street. The poster photographs featured members of the historical reenactment club PovstanetsPhotographer: Svitlana Kulchytska.
This project is an attempt to bring historical images to life and show how diverse the Ukrainian military tradition was during the years of war, revolution, and the struggle for independence.
